“About my run for office in 2014…
Yeah, I’ve had people ask, ‘Why OHA? What was that about?’ (Because inquiring minds want to know, as the famous saying goes.)
I really think it was a combination of things that were happening back in 2014 and leading up to that election. I can’t really pinpoint exactly what it was that really pushed me over the edge, but I can say that there were a lot of things happening within the Hawaiian community, in general, that I saw needed to be changed.
So I thought, ‘I’ll put my name in the hat and see where I land,’ because I really felt that in order for me to talk about change, and talk about people wanting to change, I had to at first become the change.
So as cliche as that sounds, I moved forward with being the change that I wanted to see.”
