“I love working with the kids. What I love doing most in class is actually incorporating Hawaiian values into learning music.
I’ve found that by doing that the kids take those values, such as Lokahi (which is unity), Aloha (which is love), and Malama (to take care of) beyond the classroom. You know, we challenge them to go home and actually challenge themselves to put those values into action when they’re not with us.
With that we find that in class it makes them more of a family, just being able to watch them grow in the values that our people actually instilled in us. It’s fun. The kids come back and give their own specific examples of how they incorporate Hawaiian values into their daily life at home or at school.”
